Project Planning with Project
Templates
The labor-intensive
planning stage of any project must have the same
amount of attention as other phases.
Successful
project planning lays the groundwork for the
success of project management. Excellent project
planning provides managers with the ability
obtain useful information critical in making
decisions to meet safety, time and budget goals.
On the other hand, poor project planning
incapacitates managers, preventing them from
setting the necessary goals.
The labor-intensive planning stage of any
project must have the same amount of attention
as other phases. Planners have to evaluate every
element by defining the required tasks,
estimating their duration, resources, and plot a
schedule for each. If given adequate time,
skilled project members can create the high
quality plans without the use of software.
However, with the restriction of business
pressures and time, plans usually do not have
the luxury of manually planning.
With project planning using templates, managers
have the easy and convenient to get their
project started quicker. These templates
increase productivity as well as assist in the
standardizing of estimates between projects.
There are however, a few disadvantages with
project templates. It is imperative that any
organization to permit its planners sufficient
time to review and modify project templates in
order to avoid errors in planning. Other
problems may include forgetting required new
steps, neglecting schedule logic, and
miscalculating time estimates, which were not
modified to the current situation.
